CHOP CHOP

Hey!!!! I told you I had some hair plans! After much contemplation I decided to chop it off myself.

My long hair had been a kind of safety blanket for a long time, something to hide behind. I felt like it took attention away from other parts of me, so if I was having a bad skin day then I could feel a bit more confident knowing that my hair was long and pretty. But I think I got tired of that, I wanted to do something brave.

I was also bored with my long hair. Although it looked really nice sometimes, it was almost too long to do anything with and I was eager to get rid of 2015's blonde ombre. The great thing about being A Creative is that you can do pretty much anything you put your mind to. A haircut seemed like a fun challenge, for some reason I just knew that I could do it.

This is a moodboard I made:

These are a couple of videos I used for ideas of how to go about it:

I initially thought I wouldn't be able to donate my hair because it has been bleached and dyed but after doing some research I found I was able to send it off to the Little Princess Trust to be made into wigs. Yay!

I'm enjoying it as it is at the moment but I'm considering a fringe ?? also I kind of want to bleach it, or bleach and dye it a wacky colour. I'm not sure. So far there are lots of benefits:

  • It doesn't get stuck down my clothes or wrapped in my scarf
  • It fun to wash and takes much less time to dry
  • It's cute and arty
  • It's not so heavy and limp
  • I look a bit more like a 19 year old rather than a 12 year old (I didn't get IDed buying superglue)
  • No more yucky bleached split ends
  • A friend said it was a Call the Midwife hairstyle

I've been thinking about this Hayley Williams quote:

❝ i’m really into healthy self-expression; that’s why i dye my hair, that’s why i wear stupid clothes, that’s why i don’t care that my bangs look like spock from star trek. ❞

Yes!! It's just that really. I used to feel dull, like I wasn't expressing my true quirkiness. But now that I've got my nose pierced and I've cut my hair I feel like my outer-self looks a bit more like my inner-self which is nice.

Ta da! In true Bethany form, I documented this momentous occasion with a video which you can watch here:

  1. awww I love your new hair! It really fits on you!
In my opinion, I don't like the very short fringes, I prefer long fringes, but it's your hair and your choice!

  2. Hey!

I used to have long hair but admitantly, it wasn't as long as yours.
I used it as a safety blanket too, however, I only realized this after I cut it off; I could hide my broad swimmer shoulders or a bad job of make-up very well. I'd become a master at that. Short hair ended up revealing it all.

I loved having short hair for a while...but I think I'm ready for longer hair again.

    All the best,
    Steph
