Your melody's an art

I usually take outfit photos and then blog about them on the same day, but I took these last weekend so coming back to them feels weird! I really liked my outfit and had some spare time (shocking ~ I never seem to have spare time), so decided to take these.

I bought the top for £1 at this car boot  / jumble sale last year and the skirt I bought the year before for somewhere between £1 and £2. I don't think I'll ever get over how great buying second hand is. There's this quote by Björk which I love and pretty much sums up my feels haha

"I get highs, to be totally honest, in second-hand shops. My hunting instinct, I expect, really kicks in."

Well of course, the main focus of the outfit is my new Docs !!!! I am in love.

In these photos they're still at that kind of awkwardly clean stage, but after wearing them every day this week, they now look slightly more creased and scraped, only slightly, they are still my babies.

I feel like I could take on the world in them *crushes patriarchy under Docs*

I am so proud of that gif.

SIA. How cool is this woman? Answer: v cool indeed.

I've known about her for ages, but it wasn't until the Elastic Heart video came out that I started listening to her a l l  t h e  t i m e. She has an incredible voice.

I think the video is beautiful, though unsettling. The dancing is amazing and Maddie and Shia connect and perform so well together that I could appreciate the video simply for being aesthetically awesome. Then you add the symbolic meanings behind it all and it becomes something so much deeper and more thought-provoking. It can represent different things for everyone, it means something personal to Sia and I guess making music is her way of dealing with her past and making something beautiful from it. That's why it upsets me so much that people criticise the video and have actually caused her to apologise for it. Apologise ??? For her art ??? It makes me angry. Someone made something, someone put their emotions, a piece of themself, into their work. And you make them say sorry for it ??? Some people have such a closed mind when seeing something that is unusual or challenging, and immediately judge it as wrong. There is nothing perverted about the video, the media feeds people so much hyper-sexualised content that they can no longer see pop music and human bodies in any other way. This article here sums up what I'm thinking. Rant over.

Here, I'll calm myself down again with a cute pic of me and my cat.

Before I go I have a couple more things to share  ✌.ʘ‿ʘ.✌

A journal page featuring a photo from Rookie (I would've liked to link the post but I can't remember what it's called or anything) and some cute tape.

Some pages of my Bible which I thought looked really cool. As you can see, we've been studying the beatitudes recently.

Day 15 of my 365 project (you can see the rest here). So far I've managed to keep up with it!! High five if you recognise those songs by the way.

Just to prove how much I love annotated books, here's a page from The Bloody Chamber, which we're studying at school. It has its pros and cons, for a start it leads to interesting feminist discussions, but then there's the issue that it's v v disturbing.

I think that's all. I'm tired anyway. I hope you're all enjoying 2015 so far! Have a happy day x

P.s ~ if anyone buys me a Handicorn I will be your best friend.

  1. What people say about SIA and her art is unsettling and disturbing, agree with all what you say. Apolegizing for expressing yourself is a stab to the freedom of speech. Seeing what dirt is in peoples heads is sick. No one should deal with this.

Your art and outfit is amazing as always, I love the fact you draw in books. Wish you to have a huge team of Handicorns xx

    1. Thank you, Ania!
Yes I agree, Sia shouldn't be to blame for the things other people project onto her art xx

  2. What the heck your cat is adorable!! Reminds me of my mine--orange/white tabbies rule. I agree completely with what you had to say about Sia's music video. For such a beautiful and artisitic song, it's a shame she was led to apologize for such a creation.

Your journal entires are amazing, as are your docs <3

    1. Haha I'll tell him he has a fan!
Thank you, I'll be sure to check out your blog too :)

  3. I love this post! Sia is amazing! I really loved the video for elastic heart. It was such an amazing piece of art and I thought the father-daughter relationship so so accurate and incredibly beautiful.

If you had a minute, it would be lovely if you could checkout my blog!

    1. Yes it's so powerful, I love reading about how other people interpret the same video.
Thank you, I will have a look now! xx

  4. I've nominated you for the Liebster Award! Follow the link on my blog for directions :)

    1. Ooh thank you! This is exciting :)

  5. I love your outfit and does super long Dr Martens! I also love that you scanned your annotated Bible! I definitely need to read mine more

    1. Thank you Aida! I'm glad you liked the Bible pages, I never really thought to share something like that before, I'm trying to get into the habit of reading it more! xx

  6. Ahhhh! There's so much in this that I just looooooove. Your docs, your skirt, your hair, your annotations (which is the best practise in the world other than eating doritos at 5 am after an all nighter) and your music taste and I'm just forever fawning over you and wishing I was this awesome. THIS AWESOME. YOU'RE AWESOME.

    1. THANK YOU SONJA !!! You're too kind, and I want some doritos now...
